Meet The Team

Hollygate Veterinary Clinic have a range of experienced veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and support staff. We are all here to help so please do not hesitate to ask should you need us. We are all pet owners ourselves and understand your needs. Meet the team below.

Veterinary Surgeon

Veterinary Surgeon

Having qualified with credit from Edinburgh in 2007 Steven spent a few years in mixed practice in Wales before pursuing specialisation. A general European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies certificate in Ophthalmology followed in 2011 with time working in a first opinion and referral hospital in the West Midlands.

Steven moved back to NI in 2012, working at Cromlyn House Vet Hospital where he continued surgical specialisation and took on more complex cases. He joined Earlswood Referrals in 2016 as part of the wider referral team and is studying for the BSAVA certificate in surgery. Steven’s compassionate nature, surgical ability and enthusiasm make him a welcome new addition to the team.

Outside work he will often be found walking Denzel the border terrier with wife Eleanor and two young children (Wilfred and Constance), tending his bees, or practicing mowing with a scythe.

Veterinary Surgeon

Rebecca Martin BVSc MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon

Rebecca qualified with distinction from the University of Liverpool in 2012.  She then spent 3 years in mixed practice before focusing on small animal practice, and in particular small animal medicine.  She is currently studying towards a RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in small animal medicine.

Outside work Rebecca spends her time working with her horse Apollo, and walking her dog Darcey.

Veterinary Surgeon

Ian Millar BVMS, CertVOphthal, MRCVS

Ian qualified from Glasgow University Veterinary School in 1976 and moved to Northern Ireland shortly after.  He joined the Earlswood team in 1980 and always had a keen interest in ophthalmology.  Ian achieved his Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 1984. With nearly 30 years of experience and study of ophthalmology, Ian has gained considerable clinical knowledge and surgical technique in complex cases.  A lot of this is in Intraocular surgery and that unforgiving area of cataract removal.  Having experienced the early days of simple techniques, he finds the state of the art equipment now used a joy to work with.  He sees his complex ophthalmology cases in Earlswood veterinary hospital.

As an active member of BRAVO (British Association of Veterinary Ophthalmologists), EVO (European Veterinary Ophthalmologists) and REOVVA (European Network in Veterinary Ophthalmology and Animal Vision), Ian keeps well up to date with current thought. As an eye panel list for the British Veterinary Association since 1985 he believes that identification of inherited eye disease in breeding dogs to be paramount.
