Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Fiona McFarland BVSc MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon And Practice Manager

Fiona qualified from Bristol University in 2004 and spent many years working in farm animal and mixed practice in Somerset, England. After returning to Northern Ireland she continued her farm work in Co. Down before concentrating on small animal practice.

She became an associate veterinary surgeon in 2012 working between Hollygate and our main hospital at Earlswood Referrals before taking over as practice manager at Hollygate Veterinary Clinic in March 2014.

Fiona takes great pleasure in getting to know her clients and their pets and is dedicated to providing the highest standard of care through her experience and knowledge. Her skill is in investigating difficult cases and defining the detail required for a diagnosis.

She is particularly interested in ultrasonography and soft tissue surgery. Fiona is very much involved in veterinary politics and as Public Relations Officer for the North of Ireland Veterinary Association keeps up to date on all aspects involving the veterinary profession.

In what spare time is left her family keep her busy on their sheep farm and she is often found swimming, running and Irish dancing. After she lost her elderly cat Seamus her house has been taken over by two very naughty tabby cats called Archie and Alfie.

Veterinary Surgeon

Steven Baird BVM&S GPcertOPHTHAL MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon

Having qualified with credit from Edinburgh in 2007 Steven spent a few years in mixed practice in Wales before pursuing specialisation. A general European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies certificate in Ophthalmology followed in 2011 with time working in a first opinion and referral hospital in the West Midlands.

Steven moved back to NI in 2012, working at Cromlyn House Vet Hospital where he continued surgical specialisation and took on more complex cases. He joined Earlswood Referrals in 2016 as part of the wider referral team and is studying for the BSAVA certificate in surgery. Steven’s compassionate nature, surgical ability and enthusiasm make him a welcome new addition to the team.

Outside work he will often be found walking Denzel the border terrier with wife Eleanor and two young children (Wilfred and Constance), tending his bees, or practicing mowing with a scythe.
